Sales development of the series
The slowdown in domestic economic growth and the changed economic environment have also had a significant impact on the sales figures of the Haitian Mars Series. In the first half of 2019, sales fell by 18.9 % to RMB 3171.5 million. Nevertheless, the servo-hydraulic bestseller remains the world’s most successful injection molding machine.
The differentiated product strategy – electric machines in the small and medium-sized sector, two-platen machines in the medium and large sector – continues to enjoy growing acceptance among plastics processors. Improved technologies and higher-quality machines are increasingly in demand on the market, with the result that electrical solutions are increasingly replacing hydraulic ones. This partly explains the declining sales figures for the Mars Series.
The absolute turnover of the electric Zhafir Series rose by 13.6 % to 773.1 million RMB. Sales of Zhafir electric machines out of the small tonnage injection molding machines continued to grow and amounted to 22.5 %.
Meanwhile, the share of JU machines sold from medium and large clamping force classes rose to 44.1 %.
Years of management innovation

Approximately 100,000 square feet of the new Moncks Corner facility is dedicated to manufacturing, warehouse and demonstration space with the capacity to assemble and test large tonnage machines and store stock machines and aftermarket parts. High ceilings accommodate large tonnage presses even when equipped with top entry automation. Three overhead cranes including one 50-ton crane, plus multi-level docks and reinforced concrete flooring facilitate the delivery and storage of large-tonnage machine assemblies. The facility’s drive-in dock enables flatbed trucks to move fully loaded onto the floor for more convenient unloading. “All of these features position us well to reduce lead times on delivery and enhance support to our customers,” said Mike Ortolano, co-owner of Absolute Haitian.
The 16,000-sq.-ft. office space houses a training center, applications engineering offices and sales functions.
South Carolina selected based on geographic and market analysis
“Although other states along the eastern seaboard were considered, economic development officials in the state of South Carolina and regional economic development groups helped make the selection an easy one,” said Absolute Haitian co-owner Nate Smith. “The expansion of the automotive sector, presence of white goods manufacturing and fast regional growth in the southeast were major considerations. In fact, we’re located in the same industrial park as a $1.2 billion Google data center.”
“Most of the large tonnage machines sold in the U.S. are delivered to customers in the southeastern U.S., the upper Midwest states of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, and Canada, forming a large machine corridor,” said Glenn Frohring, co-owner of Absolute Haitian. “The deep-water port of Charleston allows us to connect easily to that corridor via nearby intermodal transportation options for fast delivery to the customer.”

The new Mexican plant with an area of 92,000 sqm is located in Centro Logistico Jalisco, an industrial park located in Acatlan de Juarez, a Guadalajara metropolitan area municipality. It was chosen because it offers fast access to the booming industrial zones in Central Mexico, as well as efficient transport means to the rest of the country, while also being close to the Manzanillo seaport.
On May 28th, exactly at 11:18, the official groundbreaking ceremony took place with the attendance of over 180 guests, among them local government officials, Haitian Mexico staff, local customers and specialized media. With the fully electric Venus machine, premiering in early 2007, Zhafir Plastics Machinery made the first breakthrough. Since then, with the Zeres Series, developed with identical construction features but designed as an electric entry-level model with integrated hydraulics, the second facet in the diamond was sharpened. In as many as 50 countries worldwide more than 13,000 Zhafir machines have now been installed.
“The Venus, Zeres, and now the Jenius machines make up our current backbone because we at Zhafir believe that the future of injection molding will be electric”, says Zhang Bin, CEO of Zhafir Plastics Machinery. Sales figures that have been consistently rising for years and the positive response from processors confirm this message. Remarkably, in Germany – the core market for plastics processing in Europe – the company currently sells more electric machines than hydraulic ones.
Thinking electric since 1998
Just 10 years ago electric injection molding machines were reserved exclusively for the high-end applications sector. The production costs – and at the same time the cost of buying the machines – were simply too high. Japanese manufacturers had been the first to occupy the high-end sector and dominated the field; they continue to play a major role to this day.
Yet it was only a matter of time until this would change. First of all, with the founding of Zhafir R&D in Germany in 2005 the revolution in the world of electric injection molding technology was unofficially launched. Under the direction of Prof. Helmar Franz a team of German and Chinese engineers worked feverishly behind the scenes. Zhafir was pursuing a bold vision. The goal was both a clear and a challenging one: electric for everyone. Electric injection molding machines at the price of hydraulic ones. Not only in premium sectors, but for the standard ranges too, right down to the simplest of applications – perfect example for “Technology to the Point” for electric drives.
By 1998, CEO Mr. Zhang Jianming had already initiated and promoted the development of fully electric machines at Haitian – acting from the deepest conviction that ultimately electric drives offer a whole range of advantages when compared with hydraulic. Beside the high price of the machines up to now caused by manufacturing costs. Supported by Haitian’s experience and production expertise, Mr. Zhang saw the possibility of making a lasting change. As basic developments took their course, the fully electric Haitian HTD series was created, which eventually was passed on to Zhafir, there to be further developed and optimized into the Venus Series. Meanwhile, Zhafir’s German engineering team was also working on the innovative Mercury and on other premium technologies that were immediately to become included in various different machine ranges.
In a sense, Zhafir thus took on a pioneering role in broadly based electric solutions. The premium markets were already partly “electrified”, it’s true, but traditionally hydraulic markets were the majority. Live applications, benchmarking, honest discussion, mold tests, and sales and service partners around the globe have little by little paved the way. In retrospect it can be said that Zhafir demystified the inflated status of electrics, brought them down to a practical level and into the production workshops for standard applications. At the beginning it was a matter of persistent persuasion, using warm words and hard facts – hydraulic vs. electric, tradition vs. future. The advantages in performance and costs are obvious. Once interest has been aroused, the facts almost always speak in favor of an electric solution. In the meantime, Zhafir has consistently expanded its wealth of electric solutions with modular ideas to now include combining two-platen technology for large-size/long visible parts.
In the starting blocks – the next generation of technologies
In 2015 Zhang Bin assumed responsibility at Zhafir for bringing the development of electric machines into the next generation of technologies and for promoting digitalization.
“The future is electric” – this is a clear acknowledgment by Zhafir that it will continue on the path already taken. It’s not just the statistics of the global market data that demonstrate that Zhafir is going in the right direction. But at the plastics industry’s leading trade fairs the trend towards electrics is also apparent, which means that Zhafir is in very good company. On this point Zhang Bin says: “Whether you take NPE, Chinaplas or even the K Trade Fair, electric machines are making ground in all markets. This confirms our decision to expand our portfolio of solutions even further. In the fiscal year of 2018, the Company’s sales reached 10,851.3 million RMB, representing a sales increase of 6.5 % compared to 2017. Despite the complicated economic and political environment at domestic and international levels, 世界杯直播观看入口 achieved an excellent sales performance thanks to its outstanding technologies and flexible strategies.
Growth in domestic and export business
Contrary to the background of declining capital investment in China, domestic sales increased by 4.6 % to RMB 7,311.2 million. This enabled the Company to further develop its leading position in the domestic market.
The overseas markets were affected by growing trade barriers, whereby sales on the US market declined. However, our earlier increased investments in global expansion enabled us to significantly increase our sales in other regions. Coupled with the economic recovery in emerging markets, our export sales rose by 9.4 % to RMB 3,231.9 million.
Electric Machines and Two-Platen Technology on the Upswing
As domestic macroeconomic growth has slowed and the sale of the Mars series – Haitian’s top seller – is very sensitive to variable economic conditions, sales of the Mars series fell to RMB 6,872.8 million in 2018, a slight decline of 2.8%. Still, more than 28,0000 Mars machines were sold in 2018, taking it to a total number of more than 230,000 Mars machines sold worldwide since its introduction.
Nevertheless, the company’s ongoing business strategy of converting small-tonnage plastic injection molding machines to all-electric technology and large-tonnage machines to two-platen technology met the escalating needs of markets, industries, modernization and replacement.
The sales performance of the electric Zhafir series and the two-platen machines reached 1,514.1 million RMB and 1,500.4 million RMB respectively, in 2018. This corresponds to an increase of 49.8 % and 13.4 % respectively compared to the same period of the previous year. The percentages of total corresponding sales in small-tonnage machines and big-tonnage machines now account for 22.9 % and 38.2 % respectively.
Perspectives and future strategy
Looking to the future, Zhang Bin, Executive Director of 世界杯直播观看入口, said: “In view of the global slowdown in economic dynamism and in times of uncertain trade conflicts and increasing protectionism, we remain cautious about China’s and the world’s economic outlook for 2019. Grand groundbreaking ceremony of second-phase plant of Haitian Huayuan Vietnam was held on January 1st, 2019. Mr. Zhang Jianming, President of 世界杯直播观看入口, Mr. Zhang Jianfeng, President of Haitian Plastics Machinery Group, and Mr. Chen Weiqun, Vice President of Haitian Plastics Machinery Group attended the ceremony.
Haitian Vietnam’s second-phase plant covers an area of about 7,000 square meters, which will effectively enhance Haitian’s local production capacity and meet the growing market demand. The project of second-phase plant is expected to be completed in July 2019. In addition to the main plant, sports and entertainment facilities such as basketball court and football field will be added to enrich the sports activities of local employees.
Mr. Zhang Jianming, President of 世界杯直播观看入口, expressed his gratitude to the Vietnamese employees for their hard work, and encouraged everyone to continue to carry forward the spirit of Haitian staff and create new achievements.
Mr. Le Andun, General Manager of Haitian Vietnam said that, the start of the second-phase plant of Haitian Vietnam is a symbol of Haitian’s 10-year vigorous development in Vietnam and an extremely exciting event. He hoped that all parties will cooperate sincerely and complete the construction of second-phase plant on time with good quality. He also sent a wonderful New Year’s greeting to all guests.

The annual “Haitian Cup” Vocational Skill Competition, which had been held for previous four years already, was held on December 8th as scheduled. On the competition this year there were 16 competition events and 332 employees joined, far more than last year.
For the competition events, not only professional skills, but also some knowledge popularization, like production safety and fire drill. The highlight was the skills to control the forklift to cut watermelons and open beer bottles, which challenged the competitors’ flexibility and patience.
Vocational skill competition shows the comprehensive quality and skill level of the staff, and also is an important way to improve their skills, more importantly, it is also a test of talents selection and training. The professional skill level of the staff is directed related to product quality, production efficiency and economic benefits, and determines the enterprise’s development potential to a certain extent.
